It is the product that settles the question everybody in Naples asks: Ischia or Procida? It also includes hotel pick-up and drop-off in Naples and beach towels. Unlike the day trip from Naples — which at 85 EUR essentially gives you the ferry and a table — here the money buys something you would not get on your own: a boat with a skipper for a whole day.
How the day works
You leave from the Molo Beverello in Naples, on the hydrofoil towards Procida. From there the part on the boat with the skipper begins: swim stops, sailing between the two islands, lunch on board. The return is always by hydrofoil to Naples, with an escort back to the hotel.
The lunch stated is Italian and prepared on board: bruschetta, pasta and fruit, with prosecco. Eating pasta cooked on a boat moored in a cove is one of the things that make these days different from a coach tour, and it is worth noticing when you compare prices.
Seven hours, counting the transfer, is a full day but not a punishing one. It is a format that works well for anybody with two or three days in Naples who wants to see the bay from the water without moving their accommodation.
What you see from the water
The value of this formula is the point of view. Procida from land you cover in half a day; from the water you understand it: the cliff of Terra Murata with Palazzo d’Avalos above it, the stepped houses of Corricella seen head-on, the islet of Vivara, which from land you never see whole because you are walking inside it.
Ischia is another scale: forty-six square kilometres against Procida’s little more than four, with mountains, thermal baths and a long coast. Seeing them on the same day, from the sea, is the quickest way to understand why they are two different worlds, and why anybody short of time has to choose just one. The swim stops are stated but it is not specified how many or where, so I am not writing it. It is a sensible question to put to the operator, along with the one about how much time you actually spend on land: on this product that is not stated.
What this tour is not
It is not a visit to Procida. If your aim is to walk in the fishermen’s village, climb up to the Abbey of San Michele and eat in a restaurant on the quay, this formula gives you the sea and takes away the land. Nor is it a guided tour: there is a skipper, not a guide who tells you the history of the places. Admission to the monuments is not included — then again, with a day on a boat, you would not use it.
And it is not a product for anybody who suffers at sea. Seven hours, many of them under way, with the hydrofoil out and back: if the bay is rough, it is a long day. Look at the forecast the day before and judge accordingly.

Who this format works for
Seven hours on a boat is a long day and it does not suit everybody. With very small children it is awkward: the space is what it is, the shade depends on the awning and you cannot get off when you feel like it. With teenagers and adults it works very well.
It works particularly well for anybody in Naples without a car and without any appetite for organising. The hotel pick-up removes the transfer to Molo Beverello, which at peak times is the most tiring part of the day, and the escorted return closes the circle in the evening.
It works less well for anybody who has already given a day to Procida and is after more depth. In that case, staying on the island, it makes more sense to go for boat hire without a licence at 170 EUR a group for eight hours, or for something the sea does not give you: Palazzo d’Avalos with its guided visit to be booked two days ahead, or the Vivara reserve on foot.
Is it worth it?
Yes, if you are based in Naples, you have a single day to give to the bay and you want to spend it at sea. The hotel pick-up and the beach towels also remove the two commonest logistical nuisances. The 4.6 from 158 reviews is a reliable judgement: a wide base, a good rating, no surprises.
No, if Procida interests you as a place and not as a view. In that case take a ferry, sleep a night on the island and walk: it is a completely different experience, and it costs less. The difference between seeing Procida and being at Procida is all there.
