Travelling on a budget Procida
Procida is the cheapest of the three islands in the bay: 9.50 EUR for the ferry from Pozzuoli, 1.20 EUR for the bus, the abbey free and a pasta dish between 12 and 18 EUR.
Monuments & sites

Abbey of San Michele Arcangelo
The church at the top of Terra Murata: monastic presence documented from 1026, sixteenth-century architecture, free entry and a guided explanation offered by the volunteers.

Casale Vascello
A seventeenth-century fortified courtyard settlement, the first nucleus to grow up outside the walls of Terra Murata: houses built up against each other around a large court, still lived in.

Punta Pizzaco
A rocky headland on the south-eastern coast, above the Chiaia bay: you reach it on foot from Piazza Olmo and it gives the classic view over Corricella and Terra Murata.

Santa Maria della Pietà
The church you see first arriving by sea: built by the shipowners of the Pio Monte dei Marinai in 1616, with the baroque bell tower and the four-faced clock.
Museums

Chiaiolella Beach
Direct road access, the L2 bus from the harbour, beach clubs and restaurants two steps away. The beach to choose when you do not want complications.

Ciraccio Beach
Long, open, windy. Direct road access and far more room than the Chiaiolella, but in the afternoon the mistral makes itself felt.

Lingua Beach
Tiny, pebbly, next to a working harbour. A bottom that drops away at once and a pink light at sunset that pays back the inconvenience.

Silurenza Beach
Just west of the harbour, on Via Roma: the beach that solves the wait for the hydrofoil and the first half day on the island.
Neighbourhoods

Chiaiolella
The tourist marina on the south-west of the island: wide beaches with beach clubs and facilities, restaurants on the seafront, direct road access and the footbridge to Vivara.

Marina Grande
Procida’s harbour front: ferries, Via Roma, the church of Santa Maria della Pietà, the bus terminus and two small beaches a few minutes from the quay.

Terra Murata
The island’s fortified acropolis, at about 91 metres: the abbey of San Michele, the former prison of Palazzo d’Avalos, two historic gates and the view over the Corricella.
Restaurants

Assafà
Thirty covers on the Piazza dei Martiri belvedere, on the climb to Terra Murata. Budget bracket, and the highest rating on the island. Takeaway and delivery too.
Budget bracket

Fuego
In practice the only pizzeria looking onto the Corricella quay. Pizza and unpretentious fish dishes, the lowest price bracket in the village.

Bars

Bar Dal Cavaliere
The island’s historic bar and pastry shop, on the harbour front. Lingue di bue and frollicella in the morning, cocktails and live music in the evening.

Bar Roma Pasticceria
The bar named as the birthplace of the modern lingua di Procida. Excellent at the counter, heavily criticised at the tables: take the cake standing up and go.

Paname’ Forno Indipendente
An independent bakery opened in 2023 by two chefs: everything by hand, no ready-made mixes. It does the classic lingua and the chocolate "malalingua", and it does not close in winter.
Hotels

Hotel Crescenzo
Ten rooms on the little harbour of the Chiaiolella, some with a direct view, family rooms for up to four people and a restaurant-pizzeria known across the island.

Tirreno Residence
Studios and one-bedroom flats with a kitchenette eighty metres from the sea, with three panoramic solariums. It is the only address on the island that states a year-round opening.
Dishes

Insalata di limoni procidana
Limone pane in big pieces with the white part on, garlic, onion, mint, chilli and oil. It started as a sauce for bread and as a side for fried fish.

Lingua di Procida
Hand-rolled puff pastry in a long tongue shape, filled with lemon cream and dusted with sugar nibs. The Procidans’ breakfast, all year round.

Carciofo di Procida
Romanesco type: a large, globe-shaped primary head, smaller and more violet secondary heads, destined for the preserve in oil with garlic, oregano and chilli.

Coniglio alla procidana
Rabbit cooked slowly in terracotta with cherry tomatoes, rosemary, garlic and white wine. A dry, aromatic dish with little sauce: a main course, not a dressing.
